Good memories are things to hold on to.

Good memories are things to hold on to.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I pulled up to the park and there he was. Sitting on a bench on a hot summer day, right in the sunshine … I was so nervous and excited all at the same time.

I was about to meet my baby brother for the first time.

You see, my mother had another child when I was almost 2. A baby boy. Being a single mom in the 50’s with one child was one thing … but two? And so, she made, what I can only believe, was the hardest decision of her life.

42 years later … I discovered that my mother had another child and that somewhere out there, I had a brother. And so, I began the search. I should say, I made a phone call. The rest just happened.

14 months later, I received the call – "we found your brother". A moment etched in time. As I think of it, I can feel my eyes well with tears or joy.

When they day came that we would meed in person, we agreed – no hoopla, no t.v., no news, no radio, no one else; it would be just us.

I shut off my car and got out. As we walked toward each other, I could see it .. I could see our mother’s face, her eyes, her smile … OMG, this is my brother!

We hugged, for a long time … then we sat .. in the hot sun… a day I will always remember …

A day I am so very grateful for .. thank you!

Hold on to all the good memories … they are what life is all about 😉
